USA Hockey named David Quinn as its head coach and John Vanbiesbrouck as the general manager of the 2022 U.S. Olympic men's hockey team.

Vanbiesbrouck, a former longtime NHL player, was previously the organization's assistant executive director of hockey operations. Quinn's previous experience includes three years as head coach of the New York Rangers and five years as the head coach at Boston University.

Quinn was set to be an Olympic assistant coach under Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, and Bill Guerin previously had been named the team's GM. The shakeup comes less than a week after the NHL announced it was pulling out of the upcoming Olympic Games.

“John and David have been involved in our 2022 Olympic process and are well-positioned to transition into their new roles,” Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey, said in a news release. “With the NHL deciding not to participate in the Olympics, we’re fortunate to have the significant experience they bring in helping form and guide our men’s Olympic team.”

The Olympic men’s hockey tournament runs Feb. 9-19 in Beijing. The Americans open play against host China on Feb. 10 before playing Canada on Feb. 12.
