SPRINGFIELD — When Mary Marchese, a student at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, began working on a presentation about the Puerto Rican community in Springfield everything she had learned about the effects of community history and culture on a person’s overall health, became real.
“For me one of the most important aspects of this project was making it clear that the goal was to show how learning about history and reflecting on that history is important to medical education,” said Marchese, a Longmeadow native born at Baystate Medical Center.
