The Transgender Health and Wellness Center hosted an Equality Garden Party fundraiser Saturday evening to help benefit the center’s LGBTQ+ programs.
The event honored the family of Alexis Arquette, a famous transgender actress. Dozens of people from near and far attended to remember Alexis, who died in 2016 from complications of aids.
Rosanna, Richmond, Patricia, and David Arquette were honored with the Stonewall Humanitarian Award. The Arquette family remembered how the world was when she was transitioning.
“You didn’t see a lot of people talking about it in the world. You know, it wasn’t on a global stage for people talking about it. So I think it was new to us, too,” said Patricia Arquette. “We worked it out as a family, and we talked it through, but I think love is the answer to everything now. Love is where it’s at. And we love Alexis so much.”
