Community, communication, and education are our top priorities.

The key to health is harmony. The connection of our mind, body, and soul plays a key role in our overall health, and if one of those components is off, it can negatively affect the others. Mind-Body Wellness Day is celebrated annually on January 3rd for the purpose of raising awareness of the importance of emotions, purpose, spirituality, experiences, goals, beliefs, habits, and actions, and their direct connection to our health.
Our environment has an immeasurable influence on our health; From the attitudes of those, we surround ourselves with, to our diets, to temperatures and colors. However, it is important to remember that no two people are exactly the same. While having a balanced diet, exercising, and meditating may have a positive impact on one person, it may not work for someone else. As an individual, it is important to know what your mind, body, and spirit need to maintain wellness for your own benefit.
There are resources to help you with mind and body health locally. Trillium Health is responsible for severe mental health, intellectual and developmental disability, substance use, and traumatic brain injury in eastern North Carolina. On June 28, 2021, the Bladen County Board of County Commissioners voted to disengage from Eastpointe and to realign with Trillium.  On June 30, 2021, Trillium’s Governing Board voted to approve Bladen County’s realignment with Trillium. NC DHHS has given Bladen an effective date of February 1, 2022, to join Trillium’s catchment area. Visit the Bladen County Realignment page for more information.

Maintenance of your physical body is paramount. To aid in the care of your physical body, talk to your doctor about your needs. DreamWorks, a gym and physical fitness center in Elizabethtown, offers many services to the community. On social media, DreamWorks says, “Many people have given up on working towards a better future, but with a little encouragement and positivity, anyone should be able to reach their goals!” DreamWorks is located at 1001 West Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

A massage just might be exactly what you need – physically, mentally, or both. An opportunity to heal your physical body and rest your mind is a great way to help your body maintain its harmony. Joelle Butler, massage therapist, offers these services at Pure Harmony Massage and BodyWorks in Elizabethtown. Pure Harmony is located at 340 Aviation Parkway, Suite A.

In honor of Mind-Body Wellness Day, take time to research and think about what works for you, and how you can have a healthier mind and body in this new year. Check out the activities listed below from National Today:
Find your favorite mindfulness practice.
Practicing mindfulness can be done in so many different ways! The key is to find a technique suited to your unique temperament and elemental type. Whether that be meditation or yoga, acts of kindness and service, mindful eating, or practicing daily self-care and appreciation, mind-body wellness plays a huge role in improving the quality of life.
Get a good night’s sleep.
Good sleep is foundational to lowering stress and keeping the body healthy. Before heading off to bed, try shutting off your devices at least one hour before bedtime. Allow your brain and body time to decompress, away from outside distractions and stressors. Aim to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night.
Create daily routines that support strong inner prosperity.
Routines create habits, and positive routines can rewire your brain. The mind craves consistency! Try adding some positive self-affirmations to your daily routine. Take some time each day, just for you, doing something you love. This small act of self-care can move mountains in terms of confidence-building, self-acceptance, and overall well-being.
You matter – Your health matters – Take care of yourself, and maintain your body’s harmony.
