In recent years, especially after the pandemic, teachers in India have been considering the students’ interests, mental health, and safety as the foremost priorities. However, there is a pressing need to ensure that the stress and mental health of the teachers should not go unnoticed.
The Indian education system, while taking measures to chalk out strategies to ease up the pressure on students, should equally focus on the well-being of the teachers, since it might directly or indirectly have an impact on the students.
The pandemic and the disruptions in the normalcy of the education system across the country have brought in several changes in teaching, making it more stressful for teachers to adapt to new ways of teaching in a re-drafted syllabus.
Such circumstances draw attention to the need to find ways to ease the pressure on the teachers and take care of their mental well-being like providing them with realistic deadlines, finding ways for them to socialise and helping them with proper counseling.
Teachers can also take care of their mental health through proper time management, finding out more me-time, investing in physical health, and staying organised.
Another useful way to keep the teachers motivated towards doing their job to their best is by maintaining a reasonable pay scale. The teachers, during the pandemic, have invested more time in the students, by keeping in touch with the vulnerable students and even visiting their homes.
In such a scenario the education boards can consider giving incentives to hard-working teachers to keep them motivated. To improve the overall education system, there should be regular training sessions to make the teachers comfortable with the new ways of imparting knowledge.
