Southern Miss is officially moving to the Sun Belt for the start of the 2022 football season.
Today, Conference USA released a new 11-team schedule without Southern Miss, Marshall, and Old Dominion.
Falling in line with yesterday’s announcement from the league and the three out-going schools that all parties have reached an agreement to allow them to leave C-USA early.
Southern Miss originally said it would part ways with C-USA no later than July 1st, 2023, but changed that tune back in December and will now join the Sun Belt on July 1st, 2022.
Here’s the joint statement from the league and the schools: “Conference USA, Marshall University, Old Dominion, and the University of Southern Mississippi have reached a resolution that allows the schools to withdraw as members at the end of the academic year. C-USA will move forward into the 2022-23 academic year with 11 members. The universities will compete as members of the Sun Belt Conference.”
