The annual run started with an inspirational drill performance by the Coatesville Diamond Divas. Local trainers Rob Brown, Jon Williams, Sky Williams, and Kareef Wallace then led the participants in a warm-up and stretching routine before the step-off of the walk/jog/run.
This year’s Empowerment Run also included a health fair led by Abigail McNeil from Minority Nurse Educators of Chesco. Abigail is a Penn Medicine nurse who sought and was awarded a Penn Medicine CAREs grant which helped fund the event. Other vendors included Coatesville Youth Initiative (CYI), the YMCA Brandywine Branch, Arts Holding Hands and Hearts (AHHAH), ChesPenn HealthServices, Evolve Individual Services, and Chester County Hospital. Volunteers from the Minority Nurse Educators provided blood pressure screenings and health education. Local businesses graciously donated gift baskets that were raffled off at the end of the event.
