ORLANDO, Fla. (April 21, 2022) — With the start of the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) regular season on the horizon, the Orlando Pride has released its 2022-23 Luna Kit presented by Orlando Health. The kit is inspired by Florida’s Space Coast and NASA’s Artemis Lunar Exploration Program, which aims to land the first woman and person of color on the moon by 2025.
The jersey will serve as the Club’s secondary kit for the 2022-23 seasons and is now available for pre-order at ShopOrlandoPride.com, with shipment available worldwide. Limited quantities will be available for purchase at The Den, the Club’s official team store at Exploria Stadium, on Sunday, May 1 at the Pride’s 2022 regular season opener against NJ/NY Gotham FC.
“We’re proud to again bring a kit to our fans and our players that represents something bigger than soccer, with roots in our local community but a story that connects to so many around the world,” said Orlando Pride SVP of Brand and Marketing Pedro Araujo. “Like the history-makers the Luna Kit pays tribute to, we’re excited to see our players wear this jersey on the field to continue inspiring the next generation of groundbreakers and pioneers.”
Following the unparalleled success of last year’s Ad Astra kit, which recognized icons who laid the foundation for women and minorities in space exploration, the Luna Kit completes the story. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the last lunar landing, and the Luna Kit looks ahead to the future, to those who will continue breaking barriers and trailblazing in the aerospace industry.
The foundational color of the kit is Astronaut White, adorned with Moon Grey on the collar, sleeves and trim, which carries through to the shorts. The body of the kit showcases the texture of the Moon’s surface and the orbital rings of the solar system also in Moon Grey. The back of the shirt features player names and numbers in Rocket Aluminum, a metallic sheen that is inspired by the thermal space blankets that protect spacecrafts, equipment, and astronauts from the temperature fluctuations outside of the Earth’s atmosphere.
On the inside of the neck, the words “To The Moon” can be found, reminding fans and players of the unlimited possibilities ahead. For the second-straight year, the kit is completed with a one-color, knockout Orlando Pride crest, this time embroidered in Space Black.
Orlando Health, the Pride’s jersey sponsor and Official Medical Team, is once again featured on the front of the kit for the seventh-straight season, continuing a partnership that dates back to the team’s inaugural campaign.
The jersey’s embellishment shows a depiction of the aforementioned Artemis, the Greek goddess and twin sister of Apollo, the latter whose namesake was used for NASA’s first lunar landing and exploration missions. An immortal, Artemis is known as the goddess of the hunt and the Moon, and was gifted with the power of perfect aim using her bow and arrow.
As part of the Club’s kit unveiling campaign, members of the Pride roster returned to Kennedy Space Center and took part in a promotional photoshoot at the “Apollo/Saturn V Center: Race to the Moon” exhibit.
The Pride complete play in the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup on Saturday, April 23, traveling to face Gotham FC at Red Bull Arena. The Club opens its regular season against the same team a week later, welcoming Gotham to Exploria Stadium in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on May 1.
Season, single and group tickets for the 2022 regular season are available at Orlando-Pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
