The Ministry of Health & Wellness received 70 wheelchairs plus other equipment and materials from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Monday said the Government of Belize Press Office.
“The donation included 70 wheelchairs for children, 52 commodes (toilet chairs), 76 walkers, 160 aluminum canes, 200 foldable canes, 60 canes for the visually impaired, 120 axillary crutches, 80 forearm crutches, and 40 polio crutches provided by Puh Sein and Cao Zhong Zhi foundations of Taiwan,” said the Press Office press release.
“Additionally, 20,000 isolation gowns and 400 face shields offered by the SimpleHelp Foundation, which was founded by a member of the Taiwanese community in the United States. The donation is valued at approximately BZ$100,000.”
Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize David Kuan-Chou Chien handed over the equipment to Minister of Health & Wellness Kevin Bernard.
“The Government of Belize extends its appreciation to the people and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continuous support and commitment to public health,” said the Press Office.
The press release also said the Government of Belize “reiterates its full support for Taiwan’s participation in all meetings, activities, and mechanisms of the World Health Organization (WHO) and calls for the WHO to invite Taiwan to join the 75th World Health Assembly from May 22 to 28, 2022”.
