“In 2020, the entry of Portuguese in the US reached the minimum value of the entire series under analysis, having registered a sharp decrease”, according to data from the US body, cited by the Emigration Observatory.
The US Department of Homeland Security recorded 707,362 foreigners entering the United States in 2020, with the Portuguese representing only 0.1 percent of that amount.
With this new decrease, the number of Portuguese nationals entering that country is at a value farthest from the value recorded in 2001: i.e. 1,609, the highest in the last 20 year
In relative terms, Portuguese emigration to the United States continues to represent a very small fraction of immigration from the country (0.1 percent).
