The Erie Maritime Museum is one of 20 nominees vying to make the 10Best list. Members of the public can vote online once per day until March 14 at noon ET. To vote, go to 10best.com/awards/travel/best-history-museum.
According to the site, the museum shares how Erie played a critical role in the War of 1812 and relates the story of the construction of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s fleet at Presque Isle Bay. Perry defeated the British in the Battle of Lake Erie and a reconstruction of his U.S. Brig Niagara is the centerpiece of the museum at 150 E. Front St.
Other nominees include the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center in Columbus, Georgia; National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; Museum of Native American History in Bentonville, Arkansas; The Mob Museum in Las Vegas; United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.; and National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.
