Dr. Willodean Burton has been named an Extension Health and Wellness Ambassador for Robertson County.
This is the second graduation for the Health and Wellness Ambassador program in Robertson County. The volunteer training program is based on the Master Gardener program model of learning in exchange for community service. Mrs. Marjorie Norris completed the training program in 2020.
“The Extension Health and Wellness Ambassador Program equips volunteers to make a positive impact in their communities by helping others live healthier lives,” Dr. Lisa Washburn, a community health specialist with the University of Tennessee Extension said. “We are very proud of our group of Health and Wellness Ambassadors and look forward to their work to improve health in Tennessee.”
Health and Wellness Ambassadors received 40 hours of training in health, nutrition and physical activity. As part of the program, they will give back at least 40 hours of volunteer service to help others live healthier lives.
Throughout their training, Ambassadors worked with their county’s Family and Consumer Sciences agent to identify community needs and plan a project to address health issues. As volunteers for Tennessee Extension, Health and Wellness Ambassadors will extend the reach of extension educational programs focused on improving health.
“I am so excited to have Willodean as an Extension volunteer. Willodean has been an active Family and Community Education Club member, so now I am looking forward to her joining our Health and Wellness volunteer team,” said Lauren Patterson, Extension Agent with the University of Tennessee Extension in Robertson County.
