Slow flow meditation and gentle yoga are keys to holistic wellness offered by Amy Feldbusch at her Sincerely Yoga and Massage studio in Tarentum.
“People need stress relief for their health,” said Feldbusch, a licensed therapist from Vandergrift who has operated from a cozy space along West Ninth Avenue for four years.
“As soon as we reopened after the pandemic, my classes doubled in size.”
The studio is housed on the third floor of a converted church, now a co-working and event space called The Clement. The hardwood floors and oversized windows lend a homey charm to Feldbusch’s classroom, which is otherwise decorated with greenery, candles and inspirational wooden signs.
A native of Allegheny Township and a graduate of Kiski Area High School, Feldbusch said her path into the wellness industry was directly impacted by a car accident in her early 20s.
“Because of my injuries, I couldn’t care for my small child,” she said. “I didn’t want to turn to the prescriptions for pain management so instead, I turned to chiropractic and massage therapy.
“I was baffled at how I was healed with this hands-on work. I never looked back.”
Feldbusch enrolled in massage school while working a full-time job in product development. She simultaneously developed a passion for fitness, saying body, mind and spirit wellness is crucial to optimal health.
“I decided I couldn’t be away from the health and wellness path, so I left corporate America,” she said.
She now has certifications from AFAA, Spinning and Yoga Fit, among other specialty formats.
While scouting a location for her business, Feldbusch came across The Clement and said “it checked all the boxes.”
“The tenants are wonderful, there’s enough parking and I love the space,” she said.
Inside her studio, a former classroom, Feldbusch offers a variety of massage therapy options to target sports injuries, relaxation or other issues.
A special menu item is the sugar glow, which combines deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and gentle Swedish strokes to melt away the tension.
A sugar scrub with aromatherapy is applied before the experience concludes with a foot massage.
Feldbusch offers one-hour yoga lessons three times a week, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. Saturdays. Class styles change each week. Costs range from $7.50 to $15 a class, depending on frequency. Feldbusch also offers a membership which includes class discounts.
Enrollment for paid lessons is limited to about a dozen people, though twice that number turn out for Feldbusch’s free community session hosted each month.
The wellness enthusiast teaches gentle yoga in an effort to introduce newbies to the practice. She said movements are appropriate for all skill levels. Participants are asked to bring a mat if they have one, along with a water bottle.
The next free class is 6:30 p.m. March 29.
In her spare time, Feldbusch enjoys being active outdoors either on the trails or in a kayak. If she’s not at work, you can find her walking her dogs or chilling with a cup of coffee, she said.
Feldbusch said she feels like she has found the perfect home for her business at The Clement, especially after working in an office for so long with no access to the outside.
“I just love all the light that streams in,” she said. “It has character.”
