Burkhalter departed for the Atlanta Braves training facility in North Port, Florida as he starts his professional career, according to The Dothan Eagle.
He will go through evaluations at the facility before being assigned to a minor league team. He was drafted with the 76th overall pick in the draft and signed a contract worth $647,000.
Due to his experience he has the potential to quickly move through the minor leagues as a reliever.

Every week Harsin and the rest of the coaching staff honor two players and one position group for their work this offseason. This past week safety Zion Puckett and quarterback Robby Ashford were singled out and the tight end group was honored.
Puckett is entering his junior season as an expected starter at safety and should be an important member of the secondary.
Ashford, who transferred in from Oregon, is contending for the starting quarterback job and has impressed with his running ability this offseason.
