Baby’s first baseball game happens to be the 2022 MLB All-Star Game for Jeff McNeil’s newborn son.
In the span of a week, the New York Mets utility player was selected to the All-Star team for the second time in his career and named the starting second baseman for the National League. And despite hitting those major achievements in a matter of days, that wasn’t even his biggest milestone of the week — McNeil became a father.
The New York Mets All-Star welcomed his first child with wife Tatiana on July 13, a baby boy named Lucas. Six days later, Lucas made his red-carpet debut at L.A. Live ahead of the game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Photos captured by USA TODAY Sports show McNeil and his wife walking hand-in-hand along the red carpet, with Tatiana cradling the newborn in her other hand. Tatiana playfully danced with their baby boy as McNeil paused to sign autographs for fans.
The red carpet turned out to be a family affair. Fellow Mets All-Star pitcher Edwin Diaz held his young son while he walking the red carpet with his family.
McNeil, Díaz, first baseman Pete Alonso and outfielder Starling Marte are representing the Mets at the 2022 All-Star Game.
McNeil told media that he’s “looking forward to seeing (Lucas)” at the All-Star Game. He added that his son also attended Monday night’s Home Run Derby.
McNeil announced on his Instagram in January that he and Tatiana were expecting a child together. The couple tied the knot in 2018.
“We’re so excited about this new adventure!” he wrote. “Can’t wait to meet you baby boy McNeil.”
It’s safe to say the first week of Lucas’ life will be pretty hard to top.
