SAGINAW, MI — Dr. Matthew Deibel and his colleagues at Covenant HealthCare saw the disturbing signs arrive the last week of December.
The Saginaw-based hospital houses one of the region’s laboratories that analyzes swab samples collected from people tested for COVID-19. Along with informing individuals if they carry the virus, the results also provide public health officials with a key data point known as a “positivity rate,” which indicates the percentage of swabs that test positive in a given day. It’s a telling number that reveals the pace of the virus’ spread across the community.
