Memorial Day weekend is recognized as the unofficial start to summer, and here in the Ohio Valley we celebrate with a weekend filled with fun, family and fitness.
On Saturday, we mark the 44th running of the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic, an event that pushes the limits of even the most experienced runners and walkers. Participants will take off at 14th and Main Street, traverse through downtown, Center and South Wheeling before heading up 29th Street into Bethlehem, then to Elm Grove, and along U.S. 40 back to downtown. The course is recognized as one of the toughest in the nation.
Also Saturday there’s the 5K Twin Pops Run and Walk for Health and the Ogden Fun Run and Tiny Tot Trot, with all those races presented by Ziegenfelder.
On Sunday, The Health Plan presents the second Tough of Nails Urban Challenge. Competitors will tackle a grueling course of obstacles and challenges that will test even the most fit participants. The Tough of Nails’ 6-mile course has been slightly altered this year to make it even more challenging than before.
WVU Medicine’s Health Expo also is set for both Saturday and Sunday at WesBanco Arena as a way to showcase what the local hospitals offer.
Get out this weekend. Get active, and support those running and walking the various events.
