The To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly’s (THA’s) Di­vi­sion of Health, Well­ness and So­cial Pro­tec­tion is tight­en­ing up in­ter­nal sys­tems af­ter dis­crep­an­cies were iden­ti­fied in the Au­di­tor Gen­er­al’s 2021 re­port for the pe­ri­od Oc­to­ber 2020 to Sep­tem­ber 2021.
In a re­lease yes­ter­day, the di­vi­sion said it is pay­ing close at­ten­tion to the com­ments made in the Au­di­tor Gen­er­al’s Re­port for the fi­nan­cial year 2021.
The di­vi­sion’s state­ment added, “It is im­por­tant to note that the dis­crep­an­cies iden­ti­fied in the re­port oc­curred dur­ing the pe­ri­od Oc­to­ber 1, 2020 to Sep­tem­ber 30, 2021, which was dur­ing the tenure of the pre­vi­ous ad­min­is­tra­tion.”
The cur­rent Pro­gres­sive De­mo­c­ra­t­ic Pa­tri­ots ad­min­is­tra­tion con­trol­ling the THA took of­fice in De­cem­ber 2021 af­ter de­fer­at­ing the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment 14-1 in the elec­tion.
The di­vi­sion added, “As­sem­bly­man Dr Faith B.Yis­rael, Sec­re­tary of Health, Well­ness and So­cial Pro­tec­tion and As­sem­bly­man Son­ny Craig, As­sis­tant Sec­re­tary in the Di­vi­sion of Health, Well­ness and So­cial Pro­tec­tion, have re­viewed the re­port and ad­vised the ad­min­is­tra­tor to do the fol­low­ing:
• Crit­i­cal­ly re­view the di­vi­sion’s in­ter­nal process­es and con­trols to en­sure that they are com­pre­hen­sive.
• En­sure that the di­vi­sion strict­ly ad­heres to the poli­cies and pro­ce­dures that do ex­ist.
• En­sure that the di­vi­sion de­vel­ops poli­cies and stan­dard op­er­at­ing pro­ce­dures, where they do not ex­ist.
