Vermont Business Magazine Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging today announced that it will be accepting applications from Bennington and Rutland county community organizations for grant funding available to support the provision of evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programming to older Vermonters and caregivers in SVCOA’s service area.
“Research has shown us that being active and staying socially connected are crucial to our overall health and quality of life, which is why we are so excited to be able to extend these evidence-based funding opportunities to our community,” said Courtney Anderson, Director of Nutrition, Wellness and Community Services with SVCOA.
Grants for evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention may be awarded to support community-based nonprofit service providers or for-profit organizations who meet the qualifications of the grant.  More information on approved evidence-based programs can be found using the following links: or
SVCOA awards grants to organizations that are located in or directly serve older adults and family caregivers in our service area including Bennington and Rutland Counties.  Grants awarded by SVCOA provide limited financial support to communities, organizations, partners, and caregivers to help SVCOA build greater capacity and to develop a network of support for older adults and family caregivers.
Additionally, SVCOA operates under the guidance of the Older Americans Act (“OAA”) which delineates and regulates the scope of work of Vermont’s area agencies on aging. The OAA requires that all services and supports be targeted to older adults with the greatest economic and social need, especially those who are:
· at risk of institutional placement
· low-income minority individuals
· limited English proficiency
· residing in rural areas
To learn more or submit an application for funding, please contact Courtney Anderson, SVCOA Director of Nutrition, Wellness and Community Services, at or 802-772-7828. The application deadline for this funding is September 26, 2022.
