The USA South has announced the 2022 Preseason Volleyball Coaches polls, with Pfeiffer picked to finish fourth in the 10-team rankings.
Last season, Pfeiffer finished with a 19-13 overall record which included a 9-9 mark in USA South play, finishing in fifth place in the East Division.
The 19 wins marks the most wins in a season since the 2009 season when the Falcons won 21 matches. In addition, the 19 wins is the third-highest win total of Pfeiffer over the past 19 season.
The Falcons return a pair of starters from last year’s team, including junior Morgan Shrader (Matthews), who was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Second Team as an outside hitter.
Last season, Shrader led Pfeiffer in total points scored (305), points per set (2.50) and averaged 2.18 kills per set. Defensively, she had 360 digs while averaging 2.95 digs per set.
Senior Madison Honeycutt (Arroyo Grande, California) also returns this season after knocking down 256 kills and hitting for a .232 percentage last season. She also and 103 digs and 26 total blocks.
Setters Kylee Mayberry (Harmony) and Kira Suttles (Morganton) are also returning for the Falcons. Mayberry had 757 assists in her freshman campaign just a season ago while Suttles dished 428 assists. Mayberry also led Pfeiffer with 44 aces.
In addition to the 11 letterwinners returning, Pfeiffer expects major contributions from an excellent freshman recruiting class.
The Falcons will begin their 2022 season on Thursday with a road matchup with Guilford College. The first home matches of the season will be on Saturday against Guilford and Randolph College.
Southern Virginia led votes in the poll. It is the defending regular season champion for the East Division and the defending tournament champion.
