Each year, millions of Americans struggle with mental-health related illnesses. That’s according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), which has made it a mission to reduce the stigma and help save lives.
What was once a taboo topic has turned into a nationwide effort to raise awareness and provide mental health resources and support.
Hillsborough County wants to make sure residents are prioritizing their mental health all year long.
The County has worked with several community partners on it’s Mindful Mondays initiative. Mindful Mondays promotes different ways you can put yourself first, despite having a busy schedule.
From expert advice from Tampa General Hospital and the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to easy recipes and exercises from Hillsborough County’s Healthy Living team, the Mindful Mondays hub is a one stop shop for all things self-care.
Some ways to improve your overall health and wellness include:
•Hear from the experts
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain? You’re not alone. Between navigating the challenges of the pandemic and trying to plan the future, the past few years have been anything but easy.
Hillsborough County’s partners from Tampa General Hospital explain how to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, where to find resources, how to practice self-care techniques, and how to improve your overall wellness.
•Find help, hope, and healing
For nearly 50 years, the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay has offered services to the Tampa Bay community to ensure no one has to face a crisis alone. Crisis Center CEO Clara Reynolds explains the unique struggles kids, teens, and young adults face when it comes to their mental health, as well as how previous trauma can impact your everyday life. From the 211 Contact Center to the Suicide Prevention Program, the Crisis Center is available to anyone in need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Hillsborough County Aging Services provides quick, easy, and healthy recipes to promote physical health and mental wellness. This special ‘Eat Well’ series is all about avocados. Find different ways you can incorporate this superfood into delicious meals the whole family will enjoy.

Staff from Hillsborough County’s Healthy Living Program say exercise is one of the best ways to improve your mental, physical, and overall wellness.
Get your heart rate up with a quick cardio class or calm down with some breathing exercises and chair yoga.
•Discover your moment of Zen
Having a busy day at work? Itching to get outdoors but can’t close your computer? Hillsborough County is bringing some serenity to your screens. Explore some of the county’s conservation parks and preserves without ever leaving your living room.
Mindful Mondays promotes different ways you can make your mental health a priority but not take up too much of your busy schedule. From chair yoga virtual classes to tips on how to decompress after a long day, Hillsborough County’s Mindful Mondays has various interactive resources for you to access no matter what day or time it is.
