Party president Wee Ka Siong says the race between Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional is no longer MCA's concern.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong today reiterated Barisan Nasional’s (BN) stand that it is ready to play the role of the opposition following its poor performance at the Nov 19 election.
He said the decision was made after failing to obtain the mandate of the people to form the next government.
“MCA is ready to play the role of opposition, to provide checks and balance for the government to come,” he said in a press conference at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur.
“MCA respects and accepts the fact that BN was rejected by the people at the 15th general election, in line with the parliamentary democracy system.”
Wee’s statement echoed those of other BN leaders including Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the coalition should remain in the opposition after its election failure.
When asked about the race for support between Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, Wee said it was no longer MCA’s concern.
“MCA was formed to protect the welfare of the people, whether as the government or as the opposition.
“This in no way stunts the role we have to play,” he said.
