LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2022) — Feb. 20-26 is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Week. A CSA is a convenient way to enjoy fresh produce and other farm offerings while supporting local growers. University of Kentucky Human Resources (HR) Health and Wellness offers $100 and $200 vouchers enabling employees with UK health insurance plans to participate in the program.
How does the CSA voucher program work?
You can use your voucher to purchase a share with the farm of your choice before the growing season. Buying your CSA share allows the farms to purchase the supplies they need. In return, you receive a weekly box or bag of seasonal produce (vegetables and other offerings) to pick up from a convenient location you choose. Farms will also provide newsletters with tips and recipes to help you use your share.
“I loved the mixture of vegetables that we got,” said Janna Neltner, a UK associate professor in pathology. “There were some core staples we were used to eating, and then others that were new to us. It allowed us (and by us I also mean picky tween children too) to try out some new vegetables I wouldn’t have bought specifically on my own. Turns out, we love quick pickled turnips. Who knew?”
How do I claim a voucher?
On the CSA website, you can claim your voucher. Then, you will receive a confirmation email with a code and link to instructions on how to purchase a share from your chosen farm. After you purchase your share, you can join our dedicated Facebook group  and subscribe to our blog. Vouchers are available until May 6, and shares can be purchased until May 9.
I have a small family. Will a CSA share work for me?
Most farms offer multiple sizes. You choose the share size that is right for your family’s needs.
How do I choose a farm?
We are excited to have 11 farms this year. Information about each farm is available on our website to help you choose the one that suits your needs best.

The University of Kentucky is increasingly the first choice for students, faculty and staff to pursue their passions and their professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT into Diversity recognized us as a Diversity Champion four years running. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for” three years in a row, and UK is among only 22 universities in the country on Forbes’ list of “America’s Best Employers.”  We are ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on discovery that changes lives and communities. And our patients know and appreciate the fact that UK HealthCare has been named the state’s top hospital for five straight years. Accolades and honors are great. But they are more important for what they represent: the idea that creating a community of belonging and commitment to excellence is how we honor our mission to be not simply the University of Kentucky, but the University for Kentucky.
