A former pastor at a Canadian megachurch was arrested in connection to a sexual assault investigation, months after he resigned when church leaders found he sexually harassed a parishioner.
Bruxy Cavey, who grew The Meeting House into a megachurch in Ontario, was charged with one count of sexual assault on May 31, according to a press release from Hamilton Police.
Cavey, the primary teaching pastor at the church, was employed there from 1996 to 2021, police reported. Headquartered in Oakville, the church has locations throughout the greater Toronto area.
Cavey, 57, was asked to resign from the church in March after an independent investigator found he had a yearslong sexual relationship with a member of his church who had sought counseling, according to information released from the church.
He confirmed his resignation in a blog post.
“This adulterous relationship is my greatest failure, my darkest sin, and I take full responsibility for my actions,” Cavey wrote.

Hamilton police said the alleged victim was a woman but did not release additional information about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police said they believe there may be more victims and asked anyone with information to contact the department.
Cavey is slated to appear in court on June 27.
