Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse Lorraine Walsh is opening her own mental wellness practice on Gloucester Main Street, Better Brain.
Better Brain, Walsh said, offers its patients what she calls “a wholistic approach” to mental health wellness and uses neurofeedback to help individuals optimize their brain’s function. An open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Walsh uses Neuroptimal Non-Linear Dynamic Programming to assist her patients that struggle with anxiety, PTSD, “brain fog,” insomnia and other mental illness and disorders. The device using sensors that are placed on the patient’s head to send and receive signals from the brain. These signals help point to areas in a person’s brain that are not operating as it should.
While the sensors are attached, the patient sits in a dark room and listens to music as a projection displays images designed to calm them. The projection can be scenes of nature or an array of dancing lights. Each session…
