Auburn Morning Rush: Four more Tigers taken in MLB draft, basketball team wins award – Auburn Wire

Despite there being no games played there was plenty of good news around Auburn on Tuesday.
Four more Tigers were drafted on the final day of the MLB draft, ensuring a program record. The men’s basketball program and four upperclassmen were honored for their success in the classroom as well as on the court. Two members of Auburn’s wheelchair basketball team helped the USA national team win the gold at the Americas Cup and a incoming tennis player was crowned the best in the country on clay.

Four more Tigers were selected in the third and final day of the MLB draft Tuesday, giving Auburn eight total selections and one of the biggest draft classes in program history this week.
Carson Skipper was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 11th round with the 326th overall pick. Hayden Mullins was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with the 369th overall pick in the 12th round. Blake Rambush was drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the 456th pick in thr 15th round, and Brody Moore was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 517th overall pick in the 17th round.
The Tigers eight selections are the second most in program history and the most they have ever had in the first 20 rounds. Auburn has now produced 36 draft picks under Butch Thompson.

Auburn men’s basketball is having success on and off the court. The Tiger were awarded the 2021-22 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, while four Tigers were selected to the NABC Honors Court, the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Tuesday.
The award is for outstanding achievement in the classroom by a collegiate men’s basketball team and recognizes teams that had a 3.0 or higher GPA in the 2021-22 academic year. The Tigers were one of six NCAA Division l men’s programs to finish in the top 25 of the AP Poll and have a 3.0 or higher team GPA.
Preston Cook, Zep Jasper, Lion Berman, and Chandler Leopard were named to the NABC Honors Court. Which is for upperclassmen who had a 3.2 or higher GPA in the 2021-22 academic year.

Nicholas Heng will be returning to Auburn with some impressive hardware.
The incoming freshman won the UTSA National Clay Court Championship for boys 18 and under on Sunday. He finished as the runner up last year.
The Madison, Alabama, native won six of his seven matches in straight sets to win the title. He was ranked as the No.1 recruit in the state of Alabama for the 2023 recruiting cycle.

The USA Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team won the Gold medal at the Americas Cup and Auburn was well represented. Joe Rafter competed for the team while Robb Taylor was on the coaching staff.
Team USA defeated Brazil 77-59 to win the gold medal.
