Texas Rowing will have student-athletes competing for three countries on seven different boats at this week’s championships.
VARESE, Italy – Eleven members of Texas Rowing will be representing their nations at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 and Under 19 Championships this week on Lago di Varese in Varese, Italy.
In the Women’s Eight (BW8+), current Longhorns Rachel Rane and Kathia Nitsch will compete for the United States while Texas Teammate Hannah Medcalf will race for Great Britain at the U23 Championships.
Also competing in the U23 Championships will be Kaitlin Knifton, Francesca Raggi, Anna Jensen and Caitlin Esse, who will represent the United States in the Women’s Four (BW4-), while Sophia Calabrese will row for the U.S. in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls (BW4x). Also racing for the United States will be Sue Holderness as part of the Women’s Pair (BW2-).
A pair of incoming Longhorns will also represent their country, as Marg van der Wal will row for The Netherlands’ U23 squad in the Women’s Double Sculls (BW2x) and Issie Magee will race for Great Britain’s U19 team in the Women’s Four (JW4-).
The World Rowing U23 Championships began today and will run through July 30 and the World Rowing U19 Championships will take place from July 27-31.
