SPRINGFIELD — The Community Health and Wellness Fair, intended to provide necessary health-related resources to the public, will take place from 1-6 p.m. Saturday at 154½ Main St., Indian Orchard.
The fair will offer free blood pressure checks, a free yoga class, a free cooking class, guest speakers and music.
City Councilor Zaida Govan and Ayanna Crawford, founder of the Take the Mic program and chief of staff for state Rep. Orlando Ramos, D-Springfield, are spearheading the event. Both Crawford and Govan are members of the City Council’s Mental Health Subcommittee.
“This (event) is an outgrowth of where are in the world, wanting to focus on mental health, wellness and making sure that everybody does their yearly screenings and such,” Crawford said. “The goal is to have this event every year to give people a moment to digress and check in on (themselves).”
Raw Beauty Brand, Yummy Italian Ice, Crawford’s BlingBoutique Jewelry, Pyure Beauty, Mindfulness Yoga with Kateri, Multicultural Clinical Services and other businesses and organizations will be present.
Although the event will take place in Indian Orchard, Crawford said she would like for the public to know that all residents in Springfield are welcome to attend.
“Whether it’s learning more about eating or living healthier, we want everybody to come out and enjoy themselves,” Crawford said. “There will be music, food trucks and (opportunities) to learn more about how to take better care of your health.”
Govan, who will be selling waist beads at the event, said it is also an opportunity for local business owners and organizations to share their services with residents.
“Main Street is a busy street and on Saturdays. A lot of people are walking around,” Govan said. “I think it’s a business expansion opportunity.”
Crawford and Govan still have a few open spots for small businesses and organizations that can serve as health vendors or resource tables. The vendor fee is $25.
“We are looking for resource vendors and anyone that sells any healthy products or things that help inspire people,” Crawford said.
For more information, or to register as a health vendor or resource table, call Govan at 413-301-2533 or Crawford at 413-886-9089.
